11-27-2025 — Happy family arguments day
Howdy all.
Happy Gobble Day
Brrr, last night the temps went to 30, and the winds to 50mph gusts. Still winds are 25, gusting to 40. Lake Erie has made a water shift to the East. The western shores of the lake are dry beds out as much as 100 feet. About 5-7 feet of water was blown east. Here, we have a 25-30 cliff at the end of the road that is the “shore” of the lake. Well, it is pretty much topping out between the water shift and the 15-20 foot waves. Yeah, that high on a lake.
Last night was a horrible sleeping night for me. I had both of my Alexa speakers playing “gray” noise at a higher than normal volume, and I could still hear the howling winds. Luck has been with me so far during this storm, in that I had a couple of electricity flickers Tuesday and Wednesday, and the only outage was from 2:33 am to 2:39 am this morning. That 6 minutes were extremely nasty to me without any gray noise anywhere, and just the sounds of the lake and the winds howling. So glad it came back quickly.
Writing of that reminds me to say the FirstEnergy company has been doing great in this storm. https://outages-oh.firstenergycorp.com/?address=44057 I’ve watched the number of households, without power, go up to as many as 7000 or so, and drop back within an hour or two. They are having group outages all over northeast Ohio, and are knocking them down like play Whack-a-mole. Good job FirstEnergy.
Freezing start to the day. Please sing along.
The weather outside is frightful.
Certainly not delightful.
Even if I got no place to go.
F’ You Snow! F’ You Snow! F’ You Snow!!!
I followed through with the Turkey this morning. After rinsing it out and removing all the brine seasoning stuck inside or out, I stuffed it with cut up apples and put it into a roaster bag that I had already added a layer of potatoes, carrots, basil. Since it is meant to feed Kitty, along with me, I couldn’t use some things like onions or too much pepper or garlic. All are not good for a cat.
Into the oven it went. Complete with a bluetooth thermometer to tell me when it hit 165 degrees in the deepest part of the breast.
An hour and a half or so later, it got to rest for 45 minutes to lose some of that heat. Notice I did not work to get the skin to brown. Hey, it isn’t good for Kitty or me to eat that stuff. This way I wasn’t tempted.
Massive rip job is complete. Yes, a good cook would have gotten another pound of meat off the bones, and then made a broth out of boiling the rest. I AM NOT A GOOD COOK. I try to make edible stuff.
About 4 -5 pounds of shredded turkey for soups.
I will freeze most of it in baggies for the future. Around 20% will go into the soup pot, maybe tomorrow, with the vegetables and broth from the roasting bag, and lots of new vegetables and seasoning (onion and garlic for certain). I’m looking forward to that soup.
