05-10-2026 — Mother of Pearl

Howdy all. Today is Mother’s Day in the U.S. So, I wish all you Mutha’s a Happy Day. I slept like a Kitty last night. Just kept curling up and sleeping for 3-4 hours, then up for a couple minutes, and back to sleep. I think it was partially because I got all stressed up and then exhausted, when the thunderstorm came through earlier yesterday evening. Just an hour in total, but the winds kicked in, and then lightning and thunder and even the clickity-clack of hail hitting the house’s siding and roof. I was really in PTSD mode (Post Tropical Storm Disorder). I was trying to crawl inside the couch with a blanket over me. I was so glad when it was over.

Anyway, it was well after 9 am when I got out of bed this morning. Like most days, after sleeping more than 4 hours, I am very, very groggy. And would really like to just go back to bed again, even though it is only 3 pm.

The weather is not helping. I heard a porncast last night that we may see freezing temperatures tomorrow night (Monday-Tuesday). Seriously, they are saying 33 degrees as a low. We are barely in the 50 degree range now. Winter never ends!!

Good thing I also grow things indoors through the chillier seasons. Take a look at my tomato plants.

These are Yellow, cherry-sized, tomatoes. The three on the left are from an October planting of seeds, and are producing quite well now. The three on the right, are more than a year older than that and, after a winter season of only producing pea-sized fruit, the plants are vining like crazy and back to producing cherry-sized fruit again.

I had to tie the vines up around the Click-and-Grow lights to allow them to stay near the windows. I think the extra sunlight from the 14-15 hour days, added to the grow lights, are giving them another boost of energy.

I also harvested a gallon bag of gray Pearl oyster mushrooms this morning. They will be tasty in the morning omelettes. I will likely get another gallon bag from the next flush, before the rising house temperatures, from the sun, stop the kit from producing. They like temperatures to stay in low 60s at most.

After the upcoming freeze, they are suggesting that we may even see low 70s come next weekend. That would be nice. Even good enough for my garden, and I, to Enjoy Life
