06-25-2026 — Old age and minor harvest

Howdy all. A drizzly morning. I did a couple things this morning, but didn’t finish what I wanted to get done. Instead, I decided to sit here at the desk and cool down and blog a bit. I must get Kitty’s carrier ready for tomorrow’s 9:00 trip to the vet. I don’t want to be chasing her around and fighting the carrier too. She hates getting in that thing almost as much as she hates the truck ride. I’m not looking forward to it be a fun trip either.

I did chop up a bunch of boxes and got them out for today’s trash pick up. And then added more after bringing the cans back into the garage.

A friend mentioned yesterday that her husband got a surprise raise and bonus at work, and she didn’t think that was possible with the way ageism is nowadays, and how it affects those at 50. He is in his lower 50s. This was my response — after congratulations of course.

I will disagree based upon when ageism really did start for me.  Age 50 was no problem.  Age 55 was slight problems.  As I approached 60 it was real issue.  I could still find jobs, and be offered them, but it wasn’t as easy after 60.

Interestingly though, I was thinking about those ages as I painfully got out of bed and got in and out of tub shower this morning. At 50, I felt I was older every couple of years. At age 55 I felt older each and every year. At age 60 I felt older every few months.  At age 65, it was every month. Then, at age 70 and now 71, I feel older weekly. Things that I could do a few months ago, are much more of a struggle.

Moral to that story, stay in your young 50s.

Surprise, Surprise!!  Some of the real wild flowers are blooming in back beds.  Took them long enough.

I noticed some potato plants turning brown already.   I pulled one small one out and got 5 purple “new” potatoes.   Also grabbed the 4 ripe cherry tomatoes too.

If my teeth were working a tad better, those taters would be quickly fried and chewed up. Yummy.

If I finish assembling those items that I unboxed, I may update this today. Or, a future blog will show the pictures. For now, stay young, and Enjoy Life
