05-27-2026 — Wood you Chuck

Howdy all. More spring weather yesterday and today. 50s-60s and some sun and not too much wind. As for me, ugh. Body still aching. And, I sure am sleepy tired lately. Need to get back out in that sunshine more.

Oh, I did do the gasoline run yesterday, and also a quick stop at the Giant Eagle grocery to get more “yellow” liquid eggs and a few items I can’t get from Sam’s Club and have delivered. The total for the medium grade gas was $111.01… That was for the last 430 miles I’ve driven, plus hours of the truck running while sitting in driveway, trying to charge up the battery. As it usually happens for me, I filled the truck before the grocery shopping. The per gallon price was 20 cents lower per gallon when I was driving back by the station, than when I filled it up. That was for the “regular”. I think it was $4.59, then $4.39. The mid-grade was $4.83 when I filled up. Ah, that is per gallon. Regular is 87 octane, while mid-grade is 89. The “premium” was at least another 30 cents higher for the 91 octane. Yeah I know I could run the 87 octane in my truck, but a little extra burn while it is running, may help for all of the time it sits in the garage rotting.

Had an unusual visitor yesterday morning around 9 am. I normally only see its kind during the dark hours, and mostly way back away from the house near the shed and the neighbor’s tree line.

I believe this may be a juvenile Chuckie, because it seems to be about the size of a squirrel. A squirrel is around 1.5 pounds, and groundhogs (woodchucks) go from like 5-15 pounds — near the size of a standard house cat. Normally, a chuck will get to 7-10 pounds as an adult, but males, heading into winter, get chubby.

Regardless of age or gender, Chuckie looks to Enjoy Life
