05-30-2025 — Boredom
Howdy all. I have been quite tired the last few days. And, bored because I’m not doing much. About the closest I’ve come to doing anything really productive, is repotting an Orchid I received from a friend the week before moving up here to Ohio. For the last 5 plus years it has existed in the same pot, with the same potting mix, and getting watered frequently. I also would spritz it with some orchid fertilizer juice every so often. While it never looked like much of a plant, as in never having more than 3 leaves at one time, it had roots that were green and were 2 foot long in places. The roots long ago left the pot and were hanging down the shelves of the unit in the deck patio door window. What it did do, was put out flowers almost continually.
Well, it is down to 1/2 of one leaf, and many of the roots were drying out. So, I removed it from the pot, and discovered there was not much potting material in it anymore. Just lots of dying / mushy roots. I trimmed all of the rot away, and put new material in the pot and wrapped the remaining good roots in amongst the bark and perlite and whatever else is in Orchid potting mix. Oh, wait, that was after soaking the roots in a “recover” liquid for a day.
After repotting, I did add the layer of moss that is the normal for Orchids, and have been misting the heck out of the plant for the last few days trying to get it to live on.
It was suggested that I remove the blossoms and stems, but I mist them with the recovery/fertilizer hoping the extra surface area gives it a better chance at survival.
Other than this, not much happening. Kitty’s vet called, and she has her yearly checkup coming the end of June. She has been healthy and happy lately. She won’t be happy with the ride to the vet.
I’ve been doing okay health wise myself. The soreness in the mouth from the dentist took 10 days to disappear completely. The thumb is no longer bruised, but, it has regained some of the pinched nerve pain at times. Not as bad as it was a month ago, but still annoying. And the upper arm/shoulder, well, it is a pain. Seems to be worse when I lay on it in bed, or, sitting on the couch. Or, of course, if I use the arm a lot. I’m guessing this is the way it will be from now on.
These things are annoying, but, I still Enjoy Life
