06-18-2026 — HVAC - UPS’d
Howdy all. Very windy day today. Actually started with the thunderstorms last night close to midnight. Wind gusts have topped 45 mph. It is 4 pm now, and they should slow down now. (Please!!) But the rain stopped after an inch or so. Useful for plants - thanks.
Today the HVAC dude arrived to do the annual maintenance for the AC-Heat. And, to give an estimate on wiring the air vent system to the same setup as the electrician had done the air exchanger and furnace.
He altered the way the setup was to work, but that is fine. He add a longer set of wires to the Arzel vent system power 24 volt plug, and put it into the same outlet as the HVAC itself. Now both are on same circuit in the breaker box. The UPS plugs into the wall outlet that the Arzel used to use.
Come Fall, I will plug the combined HVAC and Arzel outlet into the UPS for the cold season. And just like that, the system will have UPS backup for 4-6 hours if the utility power fails.
Today’s cost was $185 plus tip. About $110 for the yearly service maintenance and agreement (gets me a discount if needed), and $85 minus $10 discount) for the rewiring.
More importantly, it is done without the need for any additional appointments. I good through next May on the HVAC. I hope.
Next up is Kitty’s yearly appointment, and then my continual dental appoints.
Oh, BTW, Kitty didn’t run and hide, even when the HVAC dude got close to her as he checked the vent two feet away from her. And he has a very deep and loud voice and manner. He’s just a touch scary, even to me.
Also, we had a utility blip while he was working on the boxes. Fortunately here it was just a blip, but I saw on the power company’s outage map, a few people were hit in the area — maybe a block or two away. That could have made it interesting if he was working while I was on house batteries.
And here is what allows me to Enjoy Life
