08-25-2025 — Weed be Gone
Howdy all. Another lovely fall day. Was supposed to rain some, but doesn’t seem to have happened. Maybe tomorrow? But the lack of rain, and the temperatures in the 60s right now, allowed me to get outside for a few moments to knock down the weeds and baby trees that are between my house and my neighbor to the north. The spot is really on his property, but I seem to be the one that keeps it from getting completely out of control. I believe he is afraid of injuring his mower by trying to navigate between the 2-3 inch high tree stumps left from when he had the trees cut down a few years back. I was trying to drill and kill the stumps, but his wife said she was going to let their boys paint the stumps. I certainly don’t want to put down poison where kids will play.
So, today I assembled my Ego brush cutting blade attachment, and went to work. That attachment was a non joy to put together. But it worked.
This is the area. The baby trees were well over 4 foot tall. I had cut them down with a weed whipper earlier this year. But they are about the only thing that grew during the drought.
All down. Really need to rake up the mess, but I had to stop. Between the ragweed causing my nasal passages to stuff up and make breathing next to impossible, and me worrying about the blade somehow jumping off the machine and chopping a leg off, I needed to stop before passing out.
I came in and checked things like heart rate and blood Oxygen levels. The Oxygen was okay, once I could get the watch to take a reading. Seems it didn’t like my hand shaking, nor the hand sitting on the desk being held still. A reasonable 95%. Looking at the numbers for the last couple of weeks from the automatic checks the watch does, it has ranged from about 92 to 99. So 95 is okay. And, it is considered “healthy” for those of us older than 70.
As for the heart rate. Wow. it peaked at 140 BPM. Resting rate is around 67. Walking average today about 105. More or less fine, other than that is a solid workout for a 70+ y/o man. I shouldn’t go past 125-130 BPM when “working out”. My resting heart rate is “above average” for my age (as in good). And the walking rate is right in the middle of the “average” for my age (75 - 128).
I guess I’m still able to use my heart and lungs semi efficiently. Or at least good enough to Enjoy Life.
