Howdy all. The chilly days are continuing. And I’ve decided I must be allergic to the cold weather. This last week or so, I’ve been suffering more headaches and more stuffed, and/or, runny nasal issues, along with itchy eyes and clogged throats, at night, than I’ve done ever. I keep trying various OTC useless medications, and home-less remedies. All are failing miserable. As are my attempts at getting enough sleep.
So I’ve been sitting at the computer looking at my finances more. Gotta do before its due.
One surprise showed up in the email this week. Seems my prescription drug policy, as a supplement to Medicare Part D is going up a ridiculous amount in 2026. Like from $120 to $200 a month. Not nice.
But, I was checking where I was on the IRMAA penalty list for paying in 2027, based upon 2025 MAGI. I stayed almost $300 under the first cliff. No IRMAA penalty for me in 2027. Yippee And this will save right around the same $80 per month, when considering both the D and B penalties.
That will be a wash. Of course Medicare Parts D and B will be going up, and undoubtedly my policy for supplemental part G will too. I hope they are close to being covered by the SSA COLA increase. They will announce this stuff in next few weeks. Estimate for COLA is around 3.4% now. That’s about $110 for me per month. Please keep the Medicare increases under that…
I also did a calculation for another withdrawal this year from my IRA to cover upcoming expenses and stay under IRMAA MAGI limits for 2026 taxes used in 2028 Medicare calculations. I can do that. Just not too much. the IRMAA limit is likely to be around $112,000 for 2027. I hope I don’t have another $15,000 dental expensing year.
Nobody ever said I’d need an advanced math degree and accounting certification when I retired!!!! I need to win the Lotto so I can forget about this stuff, and just Enjoy Life
