05-15-2025 -- Hurt until it doesn't hurt
Howdy all. Mostly nice weather day. It tried to rain a couple times, but didn’t do much. I did not sleep again last night. Well, maybe for a half hour after 6 am. No good reason to not sleep other than the brain keeps too active.
So what’s on my mind? First, it has been 10 days since the dental appointment, and the area deep in the groove between the lip and tooth they needled, is now reached just barely noticeable. More like an irritation than a pain.
And then there is my thumb. It had been hurting for most of the last year. This is the thumb I got caught in the V of a branch that tried to pull my hand into the wood chipper. This was a few years ago. Made a mess of the thumb, and it doesn’t help that both of my thumbs like to pull out of socket. It use to happen in the winter a lot when I would try to open a screen door, or car door, where you push in with the thumb. Also would pop out sometimes in a golf back swing.
You can see the scar line in the valley from the knuckle headed to the wrist.
So why was that on my mind. It seems yesterday morning I managed to pinch a blood vessel in the thumb while opening a box. At the time I was just sure it would be like most of those, swelling and lots of bruising.
Not very pretty.
The curious thing though, note in that last picture that the thumb is pointing out at 90 degrees from hand. My thumbs aren’t that flexible.. I saw that yesterday afternoon, and was shocked. And the bruising doesn’t really hurt. And, the aching pain in that thumb that has been constant for a year, is missing?????!!!!!!????
The thumb movement was much better than I can remember it being, and better than the right thumb.
I can tell you that at 4 pm today, there is a little discomfort when I flex the thumb. My guess the swelling released a pinched nerve, and when the swelling goes away, the pain will return.
And, they there is my Apple Watch. The Series 10 just arrived. I am trying to get it to take over the old Series 8’s restore. Not going smoothly. Much as I expected last night as I thought about it.
In slightly better news, today I transplanted the 4 cherry tomato plants outside. And, I moved the little pepper seedlings from the indoor trays to the little greenhouse outside. I planted about 4 or so of each variety and just threw the rest in the ground. If they manage to grow into viable plants, I’ll move them to planters either on the deck or in the back garden beds.
If it gets cold overnight, I can drop the plexiglass roof over the seedlings to keep them warm.
The last of the cucumber plants seem to be thriving outside. The others died in the same bed.
The tomato plant in the onions is one of the cherry tomatoes. And on this side of the box is that lonely little Melon plant. Lots of room to vine out And yes, there are little green nubbies of strawberries amongst all those blossoms.
Apple Watch is demanding I do stuff to set it up. I will do so now so I can Enjoy Life
7 pm update. After a few hours fighting with iPhone and Apple Watch, and an hour plus on phone with AT&T (very nice person named “Kitty” as support — seriously), I was giving up making the two toys talk nice to each other. The latest watches use eSIMs and Kitty even tried giving my watch a new one. Could not get texts to show up on watch when sent to phone, and messages sent to watch’s phone number, went into a bit bucket somewhere.
As I said, I was about to give up. She gave me the phone number for Apple tech support, and said let’s try turning off both pieces, reset stuff via computer, and restart (reboot) both devices. It seems to have worked. I hope.
Why does the Apple Watch Series 10 have the O2 application and widget, but have it deactivated? Irking to see something you can’t use. But heart rate, and ECG seem to work and I am alive to Enjoy Life.
