05-06-2026 — Speed of light Sunflowers
Howdy all. About ½ inch or so of rain fell yesterday. It took almost from 2 pm until this morning for it to slowly drizzle down. The bird bath was a little over a half inch low, and now it is just a smidgen below full. I did pull the fountain solar pump from the bath and brought it inside to spring clean it. Now you can see the solar units without a layer of scum and calcification.
I “planted” some temporary Sun-Flowers yesterday in the back garden beds. At least there is now a little color back there against the fence. I sent an iPhone picture of them to someone, whose name I won’t write, and they expressed surprise on how quickly they grew and blossomed since I was just planting seeds a couple weeks ago. Um, yeah, they grow really quickly..
They do look “real”, from a distance! Notice the need for water. Thankfully that rain did arrive, and planters look watered now.
I did get a few vegetable plant photos while I was out there.
Two Better Boy tomato plants with more Sunflowers.
This has the yellow tomato plant that went through the frosty nights (forward left), and a new one (Back left), and two Husky Cherry tomato plants on the right. They even have blossoms and a couple tiny tomatoes already. They all needed that rain too.
One more Yellow tomato, and two more Better Boy plants.
Some onions and a couple carrots too.
More onions, needing rain.
Potatoes back by the fence. Some of the seed potatoes sprouted multiple plants.
The normal Potato bed. I put in 9 seed potatoes on each side
And I tossed leftover seed potatoes in this higher bed that has a self-watering container in it. Curious how these will do.
Lastly, Strawberry fields forever. When I planted them 3 or so years ago, I only put them in the lower (10 inch high) bed around the outside of the higher beds, on the shed side. They are rapidly taking over the raised beds, and I am encouraging them to do so. Maybe in a couple more years, the beds by the fence will be all strawberries..
If I do let the strawberries take over, maybe I can toss in a few of those climbing varieties to use the various poles/trellises. I do need to remove some of that clutter soon, if I’m not putting other plants in there. Oh, I had tossed some flower seeds at the bare spots too. The rain may have helped giving them an incentive to grow and Enjoy Life
