09-08-2025 — Dry Melons
Howdy all. Weather, no change, other than a little cooler mornings. I think this map says it all.
It don’t rain anymore. And it can’t rain any less. Another 10-12 days at least, before predicted rain.
Garden has died away. I found a melon yesterday, and brought it inside. It was a Hales Best Jumbo Cantaloupe. Seed Packet says up to 5 pounds.
It was certainly the largest melon I’ve ever grown up here. And also the most tasty. Below is a better picture with a spoon for size reference.
Yep, I got a solid two spoonfuls out of it. Instead of 5 pounds, it was closer to 5 grams. But it did taste like a cantaloupe.
I’ve been procrastinating going upstairs to finish testing the CO2 laser more out of fear I’ll find something else that makes it impossible to use successfully. Yesterday I used the excuse that it was housekeeping day. Don’t want housekeeping to cause an AFCI breaker to pop and shut it down. Or worse, run over a cable with their vacuum. And then, I did have to do that massive garden harvest.
Oh, no other pictures from the harvest. There was a potato plant that had one “new” potato, and one baseball sized one. The plant was a “volunteer” from last year where I missed harvesting a tater and it grew in a bed where I didn’t expect. Also one very small regular tomato, and an almost full-sized green one that fell off the plant. And one small onion that I have no idea how it was missed.
At this time in each of the prior 3 years, I was buried in large tomatoes and peppers and onions and potatoes. Pathetic. I’m getting a better crop of tomatoes from my indoor plants in the Click and Grow hydroponic setup. These have been growing since last November/December, and producing since like February.
Nice Yellow/Orange cherry tomatoes in the Click and Grow. About time to set up a new group in one of the setups below this one.
I sure wish I’d get upstairs and get ‘er dun. And then I could Enjoy Life
