08-10-2025 — Blood Harvest
Howdy all. I got out early today (no change in crappy air quality or weather) to harvest some tomatoes and water them if it was meaningful to do. First I ripped apart lots of cucumber vine runners with fruit, that had “escaped” the raised bed. Probably another dozen cucumbers for the compost bin. Also pulled out all of the bean plants and either buried them in their existing bed or in the compost. There might have been a couple servings of beans not completely dried out on the plants, but it would not be worth the effort to collect them.
Did notice the melon vines, while pretty dry, had at least one almost baseball sized melon on them.. So they got lots of water. As did the tomato plants that remain. The regular sized tomato plants have few blossoms, like they are end of life. But those cherry tomatoes are as bad ass as last year.
4 “regular” sized tomatoes, and one “regular” sized onion. A few mini onions. The bigger onion is a leftover from like 2 years ago. I guess I should leave them over a couple winters so they can reach a nice bulb size.
This is a quart basket, overflowing with cherry tomatoes. There were more, but would not fit, so they became part of my breakfast meal. Yummy.
I used the sprinkler attachment on the hose to water the few plants still growing in the beds by the fence. After an hour, I went to move it to the garage door beds. Oops, I lost focus and pinched my pinky finger in the sprinkler. And then, being the id-jut I can be, completely let go of the sprinkle, still spraying, and it dropped and pulled away from my fingers, taking skin with it.
Not as bad as it looks. But it did bleed a ton. Messy.
So, instead of a small blood blister and painful bruise, I left a trail of blood getting in the house. Once cleaned, and the skin folded back in place, and applying a bandage, the bleeding stopped. Typing this, reminds me how often I use the pinky when typing.
I will survive, and it will heal, and I can look forward to being able to Enjoy Life..
